Eric Bourassa is MASSPIRG's Consumer Advocate. Eric heads up MASSPIRG's program
work on identity theft, transportation, and media reform, as well as other
issues affecting consumers. He recently spearheaded MASSPIRG's successful effort
to require tobacco companies to sell safer, self-extinguishing cigarettes in
Massachusetts. He is currently working to improve public transportation in the
Commonwealth. Eric has co-authored and advised on several reports including Lagging Behind: A MASSPIRG Report on Identity Theft.
Eric
has testified before the state Legislature on privacy, predatory lending and
healthcare issues. He has appeared on the NBC Nightly News and Boston area
network television, and he has been quoted in local, state, and regional
newspapers including The Boston Globe and The Boston Herald. Before coming to
MASSPIRG, Eric organized social service programs for the Massachusetts
Association of Community Development Corporations. Eric received his Masters' in
American Studies from Brown University and graduated with honors from Dickinson
College in 2000. He's been working with MASSPIRG since 2003.
