Deirdre
Cummings is MASSPIRG's Legislative Director, working to protect and enhance
consumer rights, health care reforms and government accountability. Deirdre
testifies before legislative and administrative committees on auto insurance
reforms, proposals to lower prescription drug costs, and closing tax loopholes. In
addition, Deirdre oversees the Consumer Action Center in Weymouth
which mediates consumer complaints and recovers approximately $130,000 a year
to local victims of unfair, illegal or deceptive retail transactions. In the
past, she has organized several ballot initiative campaigns, including the
Recycling Initiative Campaign. Deirdre graduated from the University of Massachusetts,
Amherst with a B.S. in Consumer Economics, and has worked for MASSPIRG since
1986.
