We got some good news last week when the Massachusetts Senate rejected the Wal-Mart/Exxon loophole -- a corporate tax loophole pushed by business lobbyists to allow large multi-national corporations to dodge state taxes by shifting their profits overseas.

But now, the final decision on the Wal-Mart/Exxon loophole will come down to just six lawmakers working behind closed doors.

Jones, Please put an end to corporate tax loopholes by adopting a strong Tax Fairness Bill that does not include the House adopted amendment allowing multi-national corporations to shift their profits to overseas subsidiaries. This new loophole only creates new opportunities for corporations to implement tax avoidance strategies. All taxpayers, including big businesses, rely on public infrastructure and services including education, transportation, police, fire, sanitation, parks and recreation, and public health. And whatever your perspective on the level of taxes in Massachusetts, almost everyone can agree that our taxes should be fair. Some businesses should not be allowed to pay less because of unintended, outdated or unreasonable tax breaks.
