Statement by MASSPIRG
Executive Director, Janet S. Domenitz on the pending Election Day Registration Bill.
With only two days left of the 2007-2008 legislative session,
MASSPIRG calls on the House of Representatives to swiftly pass a bill that
would enable eligible voters to register and vote up to, and including on, Election
Day.
“With the Senate’s resounding approval yesterday it is clear
the will is there to make this proposal a law.” said Janet S. Domenitz,
Executive Director of MASSPIRG.
With Senator Edward Augustus championing the issue the Senate
voted 33 to 5 in favor of H 2514.
“This bill has been pending for four years; with 99 days until
an election anticipated to draw great interest, the time to do this is now.” said
Domenitz.
The bill has been supported by a broad collation including
the League of Women Voters, MASS Vote, Common Cause and many other civic
organizations.
