Close The Tax Loopholes

In-state businesses are playing on an uneven field, competing against multi-state companies that use high-priced, sophisticated accountants and complex transactions with subsidiaries to avoid paying Massachusetts taxes. Read more.

Overview

All too often public subsidies, tax breaks or special deals are granted to influential or powerful corporate interests at the taxpayer expense. Further, public services like education, environmental protection,  and public safety are supported by taxes. When some corporations fail to pay their share of taxes, Massachusetts residents are stuck with the tab. Waste and corruption thrives when taxes and spending are not fair, transparent, and accountable to the public.

MASSPIRG is working to end special-interest giveaways, make the state budget and budget-making process more transparent, and hold public officials accountable for safeguarding taxpayer resources.  In addition, we want to ensure that all taxpayers, including corporations pay their fair share of taxes and that regulators have the tools to ensure compliance.
